Veronique Greenwood, Discover Magazine, 22 Feb. The photosphere is the portion of the atmosphere where we are able to measure with some confidence the magnetic field that pervades the Sun outer layers. 2021 The outer regions from the photosphere up (the chromosphere and corona) are actually very thin, with pressures generally 1% or less of Earth’s surface atmospheric pressure. Image Science & Analysis Laboratory, NASA Johnson Space Center The atmosphere is a mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth. 2014 Like water boiling in a pot, plasma cells, or granules, carry heat to the sun’s glowing and visible surface, the photosphere. Home Explore Learning Zone What is the Atmosphere The layered structure of Earths atmosphere is visible in this sunset view from the International Space Station. The nuclear burning is almost completely shut. Both the temperature and the density decrease as one moves outward from the center of the Sun. Tom Yulsman, Discover Magazine, 20 Apr. The photosphere is the visible surface of the Sun that we are most familiar with. The temperature at the very center of the Sun is about 15,000,000 C (27,000,000 F) and the density is about 150 g/cm (approximately 10 times the density of gold, 19.3 g/cm or lead, 11.3 g/cm). The photosphere is the portion of the Sun seen in ordinary light. Its image reveals two dominant features, a darkening toward the outermost regions, called limb darkening, and a fine rice-grain-like structure called granulation. 2021 The image on the right, acquired at the same time, is a kind of magnetic map of the photosphere. 2022 These Texas-size granules cover nearly the entire photosphere. Matt Hrodey, Discover Magazine, The plume created shocks and pulsations that triggered an eruption, peeling off a chunk of the star’s outer shell called the photosphere. 2013 That material came from the planet itself, which likely passed through the star’s outer photosphere before falling to its demise. Corona Definition: The largest layer of the Sun's atmosphere and extends millions of kilometers into space. Chromosphere Definition: The layer above the photosphere that extends upward about 2,000 kilometers above the photosphere. Corey S Powell, Discover Magazine, 11 Aug. Photosphere Definition: Lowest layer of the Sun's atmosphere and the layer from which light is given off. I've also found but that doesn't seem to work, giving the error "THREE.CanvasRenderer is not a constructor" and the repository clearly states "THIS IS VERY OLD AND YOU SHOULD NOT USE THIS.Recent Examples on the Web The photosphere appears black at these wavelengths, because that region is not nearly hot enough to shine brightly in extreme ultraviolet. ![]() Anyways, what Im trying to say here is that if you really want to. I've tried a share link from Google Photos and I've tried a URL from within my website. The visible portion of the sun, giving us all that light, and the one you shouldnt be looking at either, is the photosphere. I found and although still works, I cannot figure out what URL I should provide for the image. I'm reluctant to contribute it to a "random" location on Earth as it might result in Google removing it. Unfortunately, I can't do that with this particular photosphere because it isn't of a fixed location - it is inside a cruise ship. The usual solution is to contribute the photosphere to Google Maps and then use their embed facility. ![]() I'm trying to embed a photosphere onto my website. ![]()
